Levothyroxine Oral Solution (LEVOTHYROXINE SOLUTION - ORAL)

This medicine is used for the following purposes:

  • low thyroid levels
  • cancer

Instructions

If you are using the product that comes in a bottle, measure the dose carefully using the measuring device provided. Drink the dose directly from the measuring device. Do not mix with water or any other liquid.

If you are using the product that comes in an ampule, you may mix the dose in water or take it without mixing. Open the ampule and turn it upside down over a spoon or a cup of water. Squeeze the soft, middle part of the ampule to empty the contents. Release pressure and wait a few seconds. Repeat squeezing and releasing until all of the medicine is removed from the ampule. After taking the dose, add a little more water to the spoon or cup and drink to make sure you have taken the whole dose. You may also squeeze the medicine directly into the mouth.

Do not mix the medicine with water ahead of time or save medicine that has been mixed with water for later use.

Keep the medicine in its original container.

Take the medicine on an empty stomach.

Take the medicine at least 15 minutes before the first meal of the day.

This medicine will work best if you take it at about the same time every day.

Keep medicine at room temperature. Protect from light.

Store in original bottle, tightly closed.

Store ampules in the pouch until ready to use.

Please ask your pharmacist how long you can use this medicine before you need to discard it.

Do not take antacids or medicines with calcium or iron for 4 hours before and 4 hours after taking this medicine.

Many other medicines can decrease the effectiveness of this medicine when taken close together. Doses should be separated by at least 4 hours. Ask your pharmacist if this applies to any of your medicines.

It is important that you keep taking each dose of this medicine on time even if you are feeling well.

If you forget to take a dose on time, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Return to your normal schedule. Do not take 2 doses at one time.

Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medicine.

Tell your doctor if symptoms do not get better or if they get worse.

This medicine may affect your blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor before changing the dose of your diabetes medicine.

It is very important that you follow your doctor's instructions for all blood tests.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • bone pain
  • chest pain
  • diarrhea
  • swelling of the legs, feet, and hands
  • severe or persistent headache
  • mood changes
  • seizures
  • shakiness
  • shortness of breath
  • excessive or unusual sweating
  • difficulty adjusting to changes in temperature
  • unusual or unexplained tiredness or weakness

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
